Second Semester 2019 – Set yourself up for success

No matter how you concluded the first half of 2019, what matters is how you show up this semester.   You still have time to make this year count.  If you do everything in your power, you can close the year on a high note.  Let success be your driver and you will succeed.

  • Expect to succeed.
  • Plan to succeed.
  • Visualize your success.
  • Act for success.

Wherever you are in your journey as a student, constantly remind yourself:  This is my story, I have to write it.   If you are about to matriculate or graduate, you will experience a different kind of pressure to perform at your best and succeed.    Everything rides on this semester.  Brace yourself as you will feel the demands more than you did last year this time.

  • Manage your expectations.
  • Manage your emotions.
  • Manage your time.
  • Manage your life.

Challenge yourself to bring about that change you have been meaning to do.  If it was easy you probably wouldn’t be on this path.  Perhaps it is time to be bold and push your own boundaries.  If you need to stop doing something, stop doing it now.  If you need to start doing something, start it now.  You can do this!

  • Don’t be too hard on yourself.
  • Focus on one small change at a time.
  • Avoid judging yourself.
  • Celebrate even the small wins.

The pebbles on the beach would never be as smooth if it wasn’t for the rough seas.  Expect the pressure to be on.  Embrace the fact that things won’t always go as planned.  Filter the noise in every sense.  Focus on the things that you can control.   Ride the rough waves as gracefully as you can.

  • Accept that “life happens.
  • Align your efforts with your deadlines.
  • Keep your own limitations in mind.
  • Pace yourself gently.

Action demonstrates true commitment.  You will have various demands on your time.    Commit to your studies.   Commitment precedes achievement.   Ask yourself what you can do that would help you enjoy your studies more so that you can stick with it even through the tough times.   Reflect on how you can be more effective as a student and act accordingly.  Your success will follow your true commitment.

  • Use a schedule so that you can get more done with limited time.
  • Take control of what you have control over.
  • Respond in the best possible way to the things outside of your control.
  • Take action before you are forced to react.
