Master of Financial Engineering
The Master of Financial Engineering (MFE) has replaced the previous MPhil specialising in Mathematical Finance.
This intensive and challenging programme combines training in advanced mathematical, statistical, financial, and computing skills with a solid understanding of financial markets, asset pricing theory and quantitative research. The degree is mathematical in nature and requires a high level of skill in computational modelling.
Graduates will be well equipped for careers in the most technically sophisticated areas of investment banking, asset management, financial risk management, or any occupation where a solid quantitative finance or financial engineering background is critical.
Applicants must have a high-class Honours (or 4-year equivalent) degree from one of the Faculties of Science, Commerce or Engineering. Since this is predominantly a mathematical degree, applicants must have completed at least one year of Statistics and two years of Mathematics as the minimum mathematical admission requirement.
Once admitted, candidates must pass or gain credit for the pre-courses to continue with the degree.
Although we cannot guarantee financial support, graduates of our degrees are in high demand, so there are numerous companies that offer bursaries and scholarships for South African AIFMRM students. Application for these takes place after acceptance, and are for South African citizens only.
