BCom Statistics from University of Pretoria.

Business Intelligence Analyst.

Why did you choose this career?

It was sparked by the love math and numbers. I was fascinated by the ability to use numbers and data to understand behavioral trends to deduce further insights.

What does your typical day entail?

It varies based on how far I am on delivering on a certain task so I can only best speak on it from a delivery perspective. The initial stage to fulfilling piece of work is client engagement to understand the requirement and map out the scope of the work. The next stage is comprised of scripting, data transformation, data analytics and insights creation. Finally based on the findings I present to the client and where need be it can require further rework or could simply inform decision making from a business delivery point.

What are the highlights and challenges of your role?

The highlights of my role is seeing some of my recommendations being implemented as a business optimization process which helps the business at times with minimizing costs or even enhance the banking client user experience. The challenge is sometimes choosing the optimal approach at answering the business question posed, analysis and insights creation can take many forms and has multiple approaches to achieving them.

How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your field of work?

I would like to think my field stretches beyond my skills so I keep up to date with industry movement in a form of breaking news or reading up on business journals, on a skills level I engage with people on various levels of their careers and enroll for online courses.

What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?

My go to is baking and watching series. Occasionally my son and I explore the sights of Cape Town and its offerings.
