What is your role at Nedbank?
I am a Quantitative Analyst: As an employee of Nedbank my role is to apply mathematical methods to risk problems and perform quantitative test work in order to summarize results, which Nedbank would use to make sound financial decisions. Some of the analytical data I compute consists of information complied that Nedbank needs to supply to the SARB
Can you tell us why you chose this career?
I embarked on this journey as it is a forever changing environment in which I can continue to learn and grow. I thrive in a challenging and changing environment and this career allows me to engage in many problemsolving techniques and be a part of the solution.
What’s a typical day like in your job?
My typical day would consist of coding on various platforms to analyse and visualize various outcomes. I am exposed to various dynamic products of the banking sector particularly retail products. Validating these models by analyzing the methodology applied by the Lab and represent working and approval papers to report all outcomes to make a comparison with the Labs results and give recommendations where necessary.
What are the some of the highlights and challenges of your role?
The highlights of my role would be, when I start with a new problem to solve, the depth that is necessary in finding ways and methods to resolve a particular problem this drives and motivates me. I find it challenging to work when computer systems are not working properly, therefore create delays in my deliverables.
How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your profession?
I would take professional development courses to upskill myself in any line of improvement. There are many Risk Business School events that Nedbank offers to expand one’s knowledge. I am currently studying towards a Master Degree in Mathematics (Cyber Security) which is of great paramount and interest in our current world’s recent developments as we are embarking towards a digital world.
What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of the office?
I enjoy playing indoor netball and do personal exercising, spending time with family and friends and attending woman’s conference events at church. Going hiking and family trips are some of the things I enjoy doing outside of the office.
