Lindi-Jane Janse van Rensburg – Graduate in Risk and Compliance

What degree did you study at university?

Bachelor of Business Science in Finance with Accounting (UCT), Masters of Commerce in Risk Management of Financial Markets (UCT)

What is your role at RMB?

Graduate in Risk and Compliance, working in the Enterprise Risk Management team at RMB

Can you tell us why you chose this career?

A role in risk management allows me to apply my quantitative and problem-solving skills whilst being challenged and stimulated. It also provides an opportunity for me to have a tangible impact on society.

What’s a typical day like in your job?

Currently I am involved with risk reporting, model risk governance and reporting and liquidity governance. I am part of the central Enterprise Risk Management Team which allows a holistic view across all risk types and has allowed me to gain broad experience.

What are the some of the highlights and challenges of your role?

Being new in the workplace, I am constantly challenged to upskill myself. I am surrounded by colleagues who have many more years of experience than I do! I love that I am constantly challenged to improve my skills.

How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your profession?

Risk management is constantly changing. I am fortunate that RMB supports us in allowing us to study further and upskill ourselves. It’s important though to take the initiative to keep up to date with changes -read the news, talk to your colleagues (you’ll be surprised what you can learn in the cafeteria even) and  never underestimate the power of networking.

What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of the office?

Running is my go-to after a day in the office -whether it be with friends or a solo run. I love being outdoors and spending time with family and friends. I always have some sort of travel adventure planned to look forward to.
