Keagan Brown – Investment Banking Graduate

What degree did you study at university?

BEng Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering, MCom Risk Management of Financial Markets

What is your role at RMB?

Investment Banking Graduate working in Corporate Finance

Can you tell us why you chose this career?

I wanted a job that challenged me daily. Although this career path is not technically challenging like my undergrad and postgrad, the element of problem solving remains. Seeking solutions to best service our clients through M&A opportunities, assets disposals and capital restructuring is a continual problem-solving process. This is accompanied by financial modelling, something I really enjoy.

What’s a typical day like in your job?

I spend majority of my time on Excel building models and populating PowerPoint presentations.

What are the some of the highlights and challenges of your role?

Highlights include securing mandates and achieving milestones in live transactions. Keeping up with the fast-paced environment whilst learning all the technical expectation of the job is often challenging.

How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your profession?

Market related research from vendors as the work we do is influenced by market conditions and market trends.

What do you enjoy doing for fun outside of the office?

Social gatherings and staying fit.
