 What is Absa doing to provide a safe environment for its employees during this time?

Working Remotely:

Absa’s first priority is providing a safe workplace for all employees and contractors. All employees, who are able to, have been requested to work from home. We are providing these employees with all the necessary support and tools they require to continue to deliver exemplary service remotely. For those front-line employees who are required to provide essential services at branches, a number of strict safety procedures been put in place. These hand sanitizers for both customer and staff use, alcohol swabs for biometric readers, enhanced cleaning protocols and staff education programmes focused on preventive hygiene.

 Tech Support:

There are various tech support platforms such as the IT service desk as well as “quick Access” which continues to be available to support colleagues working from home. All critical IT support is available as per normal.

 Work Environment:

As per WHO protocols and requirements, Absa has introduced the following:

  • Cafeteria – All surfaces are being sanitised and disinfected regularly.
  • Lifts – a special cleaning team has been allocated to regularly wipe down button and handrails with disinfectant.
  • Escalators – each floor has a dedicated cleaner implementing sanitization procedures.
  • Reception areas are wiped down and sanitized by the receptionist after every customer interaction.
  • Door handles throughout all buildings are wiped down at regular intervals.
  • Meeting rooms are being sanitized every four hours, or after each meeting takes place.

 About Absa BMI Bursary 2022 for Grade 12s (NWU Potch or Vaal Campus)

Each year we select a handful of talented top performers and provide with financial support enabling them to complete their education and potentially pursuing a career with us on qualifying.

The Absa BMI (Business Mathematics and Informatics) bursary is a bursary for students who have enrolled for one of the four qualifications provided by BMI, namely:

  • Actuarial Sciences
  • Quantitative Risk Management
  • Business Analytics/Data Science
  • Financial Mathematics

This programme covers Tuition, Registration, Accommodation, Laptop & Text Books.

 Minimum requirements:

  • The candidate must be a South African Citizen with bar coded ID
  • A minimum of 70% in Mathematics and English in Grade 11. 

Supporting documents required:

  • Motivational letter, where motivation is given on why the bursary should be awarded to the candidate (no longer than 1 page)
  • Grade 11 results (and most recent Matric results if available), and
  • The candidate must have applied for and admitted into the BMI programme at NWU (or intending to apply).

GenA Quantitative Analytics 2023

Please note that this is an 18-month contract.

Gain an in-demand and refined skillset in quantitative analytics and software development within the Global Markets Quantitative and Data Analytics team at Absa. The team owns the in-house Quantitative Analytics Library that is used throughout Absa CIB.

Get a broad set of skills by rotating across different Markets Trading and Sales desks throughout the 18-month programme. Based on your preference and business needs you could rotate across a selection of these areas within Global Markets: Fixed Income, Equities, Foreign Exchange, Structuring, Credit, QA, and Prime. GenA Junior Risk Analyst 2023

Risk professionals evaluate, monitor and track the risks we face as an organisation. As our business and the world evolve and develop so do these risks. As a bank it is imperative to respond to these risks in order to support and protect our business, customers and clients.

Graduates will be part of an 18 month progamme entering into a risk function. Graduates will have a chance to work across various teams, not fulfilling a specific role within the risk function, being part of a separate unit known as the Risk Rotation Lab. The overall objective of the role is to provide graduates with a broader understanding of a risk appetite; develop technical job related skills across principal and key risks; get to know different team members and place graduates in the team best suited for their skill set.
