The ability to use my skills in statistics, maths, programming and analytics to solve real world business problems.
What does your typical day entail?
My typical day involves maintaining and developing several models which are important to business, creation of data views and reports for various stakeholders and meeting with stakeholders to provide feedback.
What are the highlights and challenges of your role?
A definite highlight is being able to engage with stakeholders and provide insight on value propositions and models which are relevant to the expansion of the banks core businesses.
One challenge is what data to source to answer certain stakeholders questions and how best to provide insight to add value.
How do you keep up to date with all the changes in your field of work?
The bank has regular sessions where leaders from across the bank in many different roles provide the latest insights from their teams and product houses. This allows me to stay on top of the latest trends and developments from an internal point of view. For external changes I read MoneyWeb, Bloomberg, FT and the Economist to keep up to date with global data science and banking news.
What do you enjoy doing outside of the office?
When I am not working I am normally studying for my ASSA board exams.
Otherwise I enjoy spending time with my family and reading books on just about everything.
